DATES FOR YOUR CALENDAR!
Please add these four conversations to your calendar for the Fall semester. Great for parents, teens, friends in the community. We enrich the ‘soil’ to strengthen our students.
September 12: The Risk of Education, by Fr. Luigi Giussani
This is an extremely important book for Catholic educators. We learn the importance of proposing truth for the student’s verification, and consider the ‘vertical’ and ‘horizontal’ dimensions of education for freedom.
October 10: The Mind of the Maker, by Dorothy Sayers
Look at God through the eyes of an artist, and at the human person through the metaphor of creativity. We learn to check our works for a balanced, Trinitarian quality that speaks of the imago Dei wherever creation occurs.
November 14: Only the Lover Sings, by Josef Pieper
German Catholic theologian Josef Pieper considers what art and contemplation have in common, how one leads to the other, and what they contribute to an interior freedom that allows love to move through a person as a ‘song of songs’.
December 12: On the Unseriousness of Human Affairs, by Fr. James Schall
Life is, ultimately, a comedy. Fr. Schall considers some ‘foolish’ things that might confound the wise, or at least make life more delightful. Peter Kreeft calls this book “a worthy successor to Josef Pieper’s classic Leisure, the Basis of Culture,” which we discussed in the spring.
