Caldecott Memorial Scholarships
I couldn’t be more delighted with the response to the first Stratford Caldecott Memorial Scholarship Essay Contest! Every single one of the essays makes me proud to say the founding class of Chesterton Academy students is going to be a hard act to follow.
The checks are in the mail from the Joy Foundation, with my thanks to parents and students for bringing attention not only to yourselves and the school, but also to a very important Catholic thinker. You are in his prayers, and mine.
And the winners are…
First Prize: Joachim Burton, for “Modern Man is Missing the Mark” - $1250
Tied for Second Prize: Antonio Occhiogrosso, for “The Profound Symbolism of Tolkien’s Work” and Isaac Burton, for “The Wonders of the Stars” - $750
Third Prize: Matilda Scholl, for “Growing in Virtue” - $500
Honorable Mention:
Mark Corley, for “The Veiling of Nature,” Benjamin Thoennes, for “Caldecott on Animal Rights,” Anthony Klassen, for “The Answer to Modern Education,” Anthony Celio, for “Critical Thinking in a Tradition of Faith,” and Brian Sequeira, for “Storm in a Teacup” - $50
